ETF issuers continue to push the boundaries of product innovation and unconventional strategies attract greater attention, as regulators consider the next wave of novel ETFs outlined in my previous research note.

Prediction markets have blurred the line between financial trading and gambling, and now fund companies have filed for hundreds of ETFs that track individual NHL and MLB teams through futures tied to single-season team performance metrics. There are sports ETFs that hold publicly traded shares of companies that own teams, a conventional investment approach allowing for balance sheet analysis, including Gabelli Funds' GOLS and Amplify Funds' planned PROS ETF.

MSG Sports was bolstered by confirmation it would separate the NY Knicks and NY Rangers into two entities. That spectacular run by the Knicks also ensured strong cash flow for its arena owner MSG Entertainment. Record fan engagement during the FIFA World Cup has lifted most soccer-related stocks.

Kirsten Chang, senior industry analyst at VettaFi, joined Nate Geraci on this week's ETF Prime to discuss recent filings for prediction market ETFs from Roundhill, Bitwise, and GraniteShares. The filings target election outcomes including control of the White House, House, and Senate through event contracts traded on platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket.
