These days, the fixed income market is fraught with risk due in large part to surging Treasury yields. But investors who can stomach that risk today may be rewarded over the long term.

Ahead of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting that starts on Tuesday, September 15, bond markets were already on edge as rate hike expectations soared. It doesn't help matters that, earlier in the summer, 30-year Treasury yields hit their highest levels in 19 years.

NEOS Enhanced Income Aggregate Bond ETF offers diversified bond exposure with enhanced monthly income via an active S&P 500 put spread strategy. BNDI outperforms underlying bond ETFs (BND, AGG) with a 5.87% yield versus 3.99% and 4.01%, respectively, and maintains limited credit/default risk. Easing inflation, stabilizing oil prices, and steady rates create a favorable environment for BNDI's income-focused strategy.

The Federal Reserve is coming off its first meeting under new Chairman Kevin Warsh. Aside from the obvious of limited scope for interest rate cuts over the near-term, one of the other takeaways some experts are focusing on is how the central bank will communicate with markets under Warsh's stewardship.

BNDI focuses on investment-grade bonds, with assorted equity option spreads meant to boost income. The fund's 5.7% dividend yield is quite a bit higher than its benchmark, leading to stronger long-term total returns. There could be small losses during significant, sharp equity drawdowns, but these are rare occurrences, and none have led to persistent losses in the past.

NEOS Enhanced Income Aggregate Bond ETF (BNDI) is ideal to defend against the current volatility caused by war. The ETF earns extra income by selling puts on SPX Index options, delivering higher, tax-advantaged income and professional options management. Results show BNDI at 5.74% yield outperforms the U.S. Aggregate Bond Index at 3.93% over time.

Aggregate bond ETFs aren't delivering alarmingly negative performances, but there is some level of disappointment. Still, BNDI shows promise.

Neos Enhanced Income Aggregate Bond ETF layers S&P 500 put spreads over core bond ETFs, outperforming the Bloomberg Aggregate Index since January 2023. BNDI delivered approximately 250 bps excess return over AGG, with higher volatility driven by equity-linked put spreads. Volatility is modestly higher than AGG, but BNDI recovered well from the April 2025 equity drawdown, demonstrating structural resilience.
