I maintain the Hold rating on the iShares US Small Cap Value Factor ETF. SVAL's portfolio is heavy in financials and offers a 6.8% earnings yield, 1.7x higher than IVV, but lacks sufficient quality and GARP characteristics. SVAL's selection process helps to eliminate a lot of value traps, yet only 38.4% of holdings have a Quant Profitability grade of B- or higher, indicating persistent quality concerns.

Europe shows tentative signs of improvement, but the recovery remains uneven. AI investment is increasingly influencing U.S. capital spending and trade.

The Russell 2000 closed at a new record high Friday amid continued upwards momentum for several market indexes. That index, with its focus on small-caps, could prove an intriguing source of investing opportunities, given the right approach.

SVAL focuses on 250 small-cap U.S. stocks with strong value metrics, offering a diversified yet heavily financials-weighted portfolio. The ETF's price-to-earnings ratio is 11.14, and price-to-book is 1.21, indicating a value-oriented investment.

Friday's disappointing jobs report has put a huge damper on economic sentiment for the moment. Goldman Sachs has bumped up the odds of a recession from 10% to 25% over the next 12 months.
