SCHD has become the default dividend ETF for American investors, but Schwab runs a similar fund built entirely from foreign companies at a rock-bottom cost. Whether it belongs in your portfolio depends on a performance gap that cuts both ways.

Schwab International Dividend Equity ETF offers focused international exposure with higher yield and superior dividend growth versus the broadly diversified Vanguard Total International Stock ETF. SCHY's concentrated portfolio and defensive sector tilt may provide better drawdown protection and income, especially if technology momentum fades. VXUS benefits from technology and Asia exposure but is diluted by extreme diversification, making its tech allocation less impactful.

Growth stocks dominated for years, but 2026 has handed dividend ETFs an unexpected edge, and three funds yielding over 3% are proving the rotation is real. The question is whether you own the right one for what comes next.

The Schwab International Dividend Equity ETF is rated hold, reflecting strong early-year returns but recent underperformance and mixed technicals. SCHY offers a high 3.37% yield, low 0.06% expense ratio, and value-oriented exposure, but growth-adjusted valuation is not compelling at a 1.95x PEG. Portfolio tilts heavily toward financials and industrials, with minimal tech exposure; macro factors like global rates, oil prices, and dollar strength are key drivers.

David Botset, head of equity product and strategy at Schwab Asset Management, discusses the interest in markets outside the U.S.

You did everything correct. The 401(k) is maxed, the mortgage is on autopilot, and the emergency fund is boring and full.

The Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF (SCHD) is one of the most popular funds in this category. It has a sister fund -- the Schwab International Dividend Equity ETF (SCHY) -- that's equally attractive.

The Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF (NYSEARCA:SCHD) has become the default income sleeve for millions of American portfolios, but its international sibling barely registers with the same audience.

Dividend-paying ETFs can be less volatile in a market pullback. Some dividend ETFs offer a nice mix of income and growth.

International dividend investing has become one of the more interesting corners of the 2026 equity landscape.
