UBS Group is the Swiss bank holding company behind UBS, which was created in 1998 when Union Bank of Switzerland merged with Swiss Bank Corporation; the holding company was listed in New York in 2014. Its business spans wealth management, investment banking, asset management and banking for individuals and companies. Its asset management arm offers stock, bond, currency, hedge fund, real estate, infrastructure and private equity strategies, which can also be combined in multi-asset portfolios. The group's roots go back to the Bank in Winterthur, founded in 1862, and to Swiss Bank Corporation, started by six private bankers in Basel by 1854. The wealth management arm serves high net worth individuals worldwide, and its US business grew out of Paine Webber, the American brokerage UBS merged with in 2000 and renamed UBS Wealth Management USA in 2003. In 2023 UBS took over Credit Suisse in a rescue deal arranged by the Swiss government and central bank.
