WisdomTree Quantum Computing Fund

WQTM

Capitalización de mercado USD 300 M

I'm issuing a buy on WisdomTree's WQTM. I've rated Defiance's QTUM a hold since it debuted, based on how it's built, not on quantum's direction. Since WQTM's inception, QTUM returned 32.16% and XLK 25.46% against WQTM's 6.47%. That gap came from megacap tech, not from quantum computing firms. WQTM's index scores each firm on quantum revenue purity. IonQ, D-Wave, and Rigetti are its top three weights. QTUM is equal-weighted, so megacap tech dominates its returns.

The WisdomTree Quantum Computing Fund ETF, which only got listed in October 2025, is up by less than 9% but has seen a far bigger explosion in its AUM, highlighting the interest in this theme. Quantum computing's allure is advancing, aided by hybrid computing setups, lower error rates, and increasing government support, but meaningful commercialization is still a few years off. WQTM's meticulous portfolio construction favors pure-play quantum computing firms, many of which are early-stage and not expected to be profitable before FY29.

ARTY, WQTM, and ARKX represent a progression from commercial AI to speculative quantum computing and diversified space/defense innovation. ARTY is my highest-conviction Buy, backed by strong earnings, hyperscaler capex, and leading AI hardware/software exposure despite a 37x earnings multiple. WQTM is a speculative buy, offering quantum computing optionality but trading at 119x trailing earnings; position sizing should be small due to high valuation risk.

Quantum ETFs are gaining momentum as U.S. funding and breakthroughs accelerate the sector, offering investors diversified exposure to its growth.

Technology stocks, and nearly every other segment with ties to the artificial intelligence (AI) trade, are in the midst of a two-month swoon as market participants look for greener, non-tech pastures. Not surprisingly, quantum computing equities are getting the bad end of that deal.

Share declines for companies with an exclusive focus on quantum computing have been significant this year—D-Wave Quantum Inc. NYSE: QBTS has dropped a dismal 23% year-to-date (YTD), for instance, while even better-faring rivals like IonQ Inc. NYSE: IONQ are still down 5%. A perfect storm of threats from larger rivals (or up-and-coming new names), continued struggles with marketability and profit, and uneven revenue performance have prompted many companies in the space to slump.

Key Takeaways President Trump's June 2026 quantum executive orders and recent CHIPS Act funding have elevated quantum computing to a national priority, strengthening the investment case for diversified exposure through the WisdomTree Quantum Computing Fund (WQTM).

The Macro Shift: Generative AI built on traditional silicon is approaching a literal power and physical limitation wall. Quantum computing is one of the most credible next-step technologies. The Catalyst: Quantum Computing is waiting for its breakout moment. The U.S. Commerce Department just threw a $2 billion bag of CHIPS Act cash at the quantum sector. The Edge: I rate the WisdomTree Quantum Computing Fund (WQTM) as a Buy. It wraps the top quantum names with the largest moats into a diversified basket.

There was a time when the quantum computing investment thesis was more hype than anything. That was enough to tempt some retail investors for a while.

QTUM increasingly behaves like diversified AI infrastructure exposure, while direct quantum allocations have materially declined over time. WQTM offers higher quantum purity alongside concentrated exposure to networking, photonics, optical infrastructure, and specialized compute beneficiaries. Narrow AI market leadership favors concentrated portfolios, making WQTM structurally better positioned than QTUM's equal-weighted diversified strategy.
