Three covered call ETFs promise fat monthly checks, but the cash funding those payments does not always come from what you think. Before committing $250,000, understand where the money actually originates and what it costs you in the long run.

Stretched valuations and a crowded AI trade have pushed me toward portfolio defense. This has come at a cost, but I'm happy to pay it for reliable income. I highlight two battle-tested dividend machines yielding over 6% that have kept paying through decades of crises.

JEPI has dominated the covered-call income space for years, but a younger Goldman Sachs rival has been quietly outpacing it on both total return and monthly payment consistency, raising a question long-term JEPI holders may not want to ignore.

It's a complicated economic environment to retire in, with high costs and significant geopolitical and policy uncertainty. Still, people want and often may need to retire.

The Goldman Sachs S&P 500 Premium Income ETF is rated Buy for retirees seeking monthly income and upside in a volatile, choppy market through 2027. GPIX's dynamic out-of-the-money covered call strategy delivers strong income (~8.18% yield), captures over 85% of SPY's returns, and avoids NAV erosion. Compared to peers, GPIX offers superior total return, risk-adjusted performance, and the lowest expense ratio, balancing income and capital appreciation.

American investors are piling into boomer candy ETFs like the Goldman Sachs S&P 500 Premium Income ETF (GPIX), NEOS S&P 500 High Income ETF (SPYI), and JPMorgan Equity Premium Income Fund (JEPI).  These funds are seeing substantial inflows this year, even as US short-term and long-term bond yields continue rising.

I remain bullish on the Goldman Sachs S&P 500 Premium Income ETF despite the Fed's rate hike and shifting macro backdrop. GPIX's dynamic call overwrite strategy adapts monthly, capturing 85.7% of SPY's total return while delivering an 8.21% yield and strong income growth. Over $1 billion in new inflows and The Goldman Sachs Group's $2.25 billion NEOS acquisition validate the covered call ETF category and GPIX's leadership.

Most covered call ETFs hand you a fat monthly check while quietly draining your principal, but a small group of actively managed funds has cracked the formula to deliver both.

Three options-income ETFs are quietly handing investors monthly paychecks that make Treasury yields look embarrassing, and the strategy works without selling a single share of principal.

Call-writing S&P 500 ETFs can all differ in overwrite aggressiveness, option tenor, and upside participation, impacting performance in various market regimes. In flat or slightly downward markets, funds with a larger notional value overwrite can tend to outperform due to elevated premium collection. On the other hand, the lower overwrite percentages and laddered call strategies better capture upside in rising or volatile markets, making them stronger performers.
