African Pioneer PLC (LSE:AFP) shares rose 8% to 1.90p on Friday morning after the exploration company began a drilling programme intended to advance development of its Ongombo and Ongeama copper projects in Namibia. The programme will cover 119 holes totalling about 7,000 metres and run for several months, with further time required for final laboratory results, as African Pioneer works towards establishing a new mining operation with Hong Kong Xinhai Mining Services.

Great Plains Metals Corp (TSX-V:GPS, FRA:8VC0) said it will begin a 1,000-meter diamond drilling program at its Goodrich copper-gold project in New South Wales, Australia, at the end of this month to follow up an earlier hole that returned 128 meters of mineralization.  The earlier hole, GGDD004, intersected 128 meters grading 0.47% copper equivalent (CuEq), made up of 0.34% copper and 0.17 grams per tonne gold, according to the company.

RBC Capital Markets says base-metal equities remain attractively valued despite copper reaching record levels, with shares pricing in a much lower metal price than the current market price. Copper averaged $6.41 a pound in the third quarter, up 6% from the previous quarter and 44% year-on-year, after reaching a record closing price of $6.74 on 8 September.

Two unions ​at Chile's Centinela copper mine ‌rejected further contract talks with Antofagasta Minerals on Wednesday and decided to strike ​after government-mediated negotiations failed to produce ​a deal.

Copper is one of the hottest metals this year, up 17% so far and near record highs. While there are several compelling reasons to own the metal, the commodity needs to be handled with some caution.

Great Plains Metals Corp (TSX-V:GPS, FRA:8VC0) said a review of historical drilling records at its Goodrich copper-gold project in New South Wales, Australia, turned up significant porphyry-related mineralization missed in programs run in the 1980s.  The company went through more than 5,000 meters of drilling across 46 holes in the NSW Resources archives.

Bezant Resources PLC (AIM:BZT) shares rose 9% to 0.15p after the copper miner began commercial production at its Hope & Gorob project in Namibia. The company said concentrate production has commenced at its Tsoaxaub Metals flotation plant, marking the transition from mine development to revenue-generating operations.

Copper is piling up in American warehouses, and it could stay there a while. That would have scary implications for buyers elsewhere.

Jacaranda Natural Resources (ASX:JRL) has opened an $8 million initial public offering (IPO) ahead of a proposed ASX listing, with the funds to go towards immediate drilling across its copper-gold portfolio in Queensland and Botswana. The company is offering shares at $0.20 each, with capacity to accept up to $2 million in oversubscriptions, and is targeting an implied enterprise value of about $4.6 million on listing.

Aruma Resources Ltd (ASX:AAJ) has emerged from FY26 with a much more concentrated exploration strategy, led by the Tillex Copper-Silver Project in Ontario, Canada. The company acquired Tillex in February and moved quickly to test the project, completing geophysical work and its maiden diamond drilling campaign within months.
