Sumitomo Financial Group Is Now An Interesting Value And Growth Play In The Banking Sector
Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group (SMFG) has outperformed, driven by higher Japanese interest rates and a favorable operating environment. SMFG's strategic pivot toward asset-light businesses and reduced reliance on equity gains aims to deliver more stable, recurring profitability. Despite a strong re-rating, SMFG trades at a discount to Japanese and global peers, partly due to concerns over its Jefferies exposure.
