Retail panic: What the end of the 'de minimis' exemption means for brands across the globe
The de minimis exemption, which allowed shipments valued under $800 to enter the country duty free, came to an end globally on Friday. The provision had been slated to end in July of 2027 but an executive order from President Trump eliminated it much sooner, giving businesses, customs officials and postal services less time to prepare.

Walmart Post-Earnings: Noisy Quarter, But Operationally The Company Is Fine
No question the charges around workmen's comp and general liability reduced operating income from +4.5% – +5% y-o-y growth to a -0.5% yoy decline. If you want to know that Walmart remains fine operationally, simply follow yoy sales growth vs yoy inventory growth. Even on a 12–14 month basis, looking into calendar 2026 as Walmart's one-time expenses end and the tariff issues settle out, the path forward for Walmart looks ok, and given Walmart's business model, the retailer wins with recessions.

Walmart: Tariffs Don't Change The Long-Term Picture
Walmart delivered mixed Q2 results, beating revenue estimates but missing on EPS, with strong e-commerce and advertising growth offsetting tariff-driven margin pressure. Despite macro headwinds, Walmart's long-term fundamentals remain intact, with new growth levers like e-commerce, advertising, and international sales driving resilience. Valuation analysis shows little-to-no upside at current levels, with simulations indicating a low probability of exceeding guidance or significant near-term earnings growth.
