The Department of Energy, under President Donald Trump, has moved aggressively to invigorate the domestic nuclear sector.

Shares of NuScale Power (SMR 10.55%) surged 22.6% in early Wednesday trading and was still holding up about 10% through 1:20 p.m. ET. With today's gains, the nuclear energy stock has rallied over 25% just this week, as of this writing.

NuScale Power Corp (NASDAQ: SMR) rallied more than 20% today after the US Army launched a new initiative aimed at deploying micro nuclear reactors. Dubbed the “Janus Program” – this new initiative is designed to accelerate the development and commercialization of advanced reactor technologies – an area where SMR leads the packs.

The U.S. Army on Tuesday launched a program to build micro nuclear reactors. Investors have speculated heavily on the fortunes of NuScale, Oklo and Nano Nuclear despite the fact that none of the companies have deployed a reactor yet.

The S&P 500 has gained about 13% in 2025 through market close Oct. 13.
