For the past six months, it was my assessment that conditions suggested that short-term treasuries should be thought of as the default opportunity cost. However, I have changed my view on this. Given the culmination of events in recent weeks, I think we have emerged into a more “normal” period.

Today's economic calendar continues the week with several important data points and a heavy lineup of Federal Reserve speakers. The morning begins with Empire Manufacturing and Import and Export Price Index data, offering insight into manufacturing activity and inflation trends tied to trade. At 10:00AM ET, the NAHB Housing Market Index provides a look into builder sentiment, followed by crude oil inventories at 10:30AM ET which may influence energy markets and inflation expectations.

Many high-profile companies are going public this year, including SpaceX. Due to recent rule changes, investors will no longer need to wait long for new stocks to join the Nasdaq-100 index.

I favor the Direxion NASDAQ-100 Equal Weighted Index ETF (QQQE) over Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) for the next 2–4 quarters, expecting better risk-adjusted returns. Macro headwinds—higher for longer rates, sticky inflation, and geopolitical uncertainty—suggest a flat or correcting market regime, limiting QQQ's upside. QQQE's broader exposure to defensives, cyclicals, and mid-tier growth should outperform in a dispersion-driven environment as concentration risks in QQQ rise.
