About: Originally established as Prudential Mutual Assurance, Investment, and Loan Association in 1848, Prudential plc has moved on a lot since then. Set up to sell life insurance and loans to the middle and then the industrializing and urbanizing working classes, the company subsequently diversified into Europe and then North America with the purchase of Jackson National Life in around 1985. During its time as owner of Jackson, Prudential focused on building out a simple chassis-style product portfolio where customers could choose a variety of add-ons. The company also became renowned for its focus on building requisite internal capabilities to support its strong product offerings, including compelling technology and a large and well-trained salesforce.

Prudential: Still Attractive Valuation Despite Recent Share Price Run
Prudential remains undervalued, trading below embedded value, with the market applying a negative multiple to the new business profits despite its strong Asian franchise. If PUK's new business multiple re-rates to just 0x, shares could see 12% upside, with further gains from ongoing new business profit growth. If it further re-rates to be in line with the regional peer, AIA, the upside could be as significant as almost 50%.

Prudential set to show the result of 'broad-based improvements', says bank
Deutsche Bank has nudged up its price target on Prudential PLC (LSE:PRU) ahead of next week's first-quarter trading update but is keeping its rating at 'hold', saying recent gains have brought the insurer's valuation closer to fair value. The bank raised its target price from 870p to 900p, noting that life and pensions giant shares have rebounded strongly since early April, delivering an 8% total return over the past week and 25% year-to-date.

Prudential: Improving Execution, But A Lot Left To Prove
Prudential plc has struggled in recent years, particularly in ASEAN markets, leading to significant underperformance compared to competitors. Management is addressing these issues by refreshing and expanding product offerings, expanding bancassurance partnerships, and targeting a growing middle class for long-term earnings growth. Prior year-to-date results showed encouraging improvements in ASEAN markets, especially Indonesia and Singapore, though challenges remain in Malaysia and other regions.

Prudential: Becoming Bullish On Results And Appealing Shareholder Yield (Upgrade)
Prudential plc's recent performance was good, considering its Annual Premium Equivalent sales growth acceleration in Q3 2024 and its New Business Profit margin improvement for 9M 2024. The stock's potential shareholder yield is estimated to be an attractive high-single digit percentage, considering its share buyback progress. I have raised my rating for PUK to a Buy, as my target P/B multiple of 1.83 times implies that the stock has a capital appreciation potential of around +31%.
