MXF: Stellar 2025, But Possible Slowdown In 2026
The Mexico Fund is rated 'Hold' after a 45% YTD rally, with price stabilizing near $18-20 and a 14.76% NAV discount. MXF's current discount to NAV is in line with its historical average, offering only a modest valuation buffer amid moderate economic growth and inflation expectations. Peer comparison shows the fund outperformed over the past year, but cheaper alternatives like iShares MSCI Mexico ETF exist with similar or better returns and lower expense ratios.

Mexico Fund: Still Not Very Compelling
The Mexico Fund, on which we had a hold rating 18 months ago, has only generated returns of 3% and underperformed other emerging markets by 11x. Mexico's GDP outlook continues to point to challenging times ahead, while the latest copper tariff news is hardly welcoming, given that Mexico serves as the top 3 exporters of the metal to the US. The fund's distribution profile has improved, with a recent 14% hike and a yield approaching 6%, with over two-thirds of this being funded by NII.
