The week of July 20 brings an avalanche of marquee earnings reports and with the artificial intelligence (AI) trade experiencing significant retrenchment, semiconductor stocks are under duress. That could put added focus on Intel (INTC), which reports quarterly results on Thursday, July 23.

In one of the most jaw-dropping Lazarus acts in recent memory, Intel (INTC), once seemingly left for dead by some tech investors, is up a staggering 443.9% over the past year. That includes a scintillating 149.11% run over just the past 90 days.

Leveraged ETFs tied to Intel, Bloom Energy and AAOI skyrocketed in April, riding AI demand, earnings strength and surging energy trends.

After positive earnings releases from peer semiconductors like Texas Instruments, Taiwan Semiconductor, and ASML, it was Intel's turn to further support the notion that the semiconductor industry is doing just fine amid the recent volatility.

Stacy Rasgon of Bernstein said surging AI demand is driving semiconductor stocks higher, but highlights growing imbalances across the sector.

As Intel stock reminded traders, what may seem bullish on paper doesn't necessarily translate to the market. Despite beating Wall Street expectations on earnings per share and revenue, the stock dropped by as much as 13% after the market was already closed following the company's Q4/full-year earnings report on Wednesday (January 22).
