For the first time since 2022, “value” has started to outperform “growth,” and it's started in the small-cap asset class. “Growth” has smoked “value” for the last 12 quarters in terms of total return, and growth beat value across all three asset classes (large, mid and small-cap) for those 12 quarters until this last quarter of 2025.

Current market valuations are near dot-com bubble highs, especially in AI leaders, where the P/S are just extreme. The fact that we have entered 2026 with an active 3-year bull run does not help either. However, we have to be also mindful of the risk that comes with such a thinking - i.e., the risk of incurring painful opportunity cost.

Launched on May 22, 2000, the iShares S&P 500 Value ETF (IVE) is a passively managed exchange traded fund designed to provide a broad exposure to the Large Cap Value segment of the US equity market.

I initiate a buy rating on iShares S&P 500 Value ETF, citing strong 2026 earnings growth and favorable market conditions. IVE's 27% tech sector allocation, alongside robust financials, health care, and industrials forecasts, positions the ETF for amplified returns. IVE offers a 1.63% yield, 24-year dividend growth streak, low 0.18% expense ratio, and trades at a discount to the S&P 500.

The iShares S&P 500 Value ETF provides exposure to the large-cap segment of the US equity market with a value bias. The current macro regime points to risks for the broad market and general growth strategies that don't confine exposure to large caps. IVE is positioned to outperform in the near term as its value bias, married with the large-cap focus, which preserves the tech exposure elevated, can hedge some risks better.
