Behind The (Revised) Curve
U.S. equity markets fell sharply this week, while benchmark interest rates retreated to three-month lows, after revised employment data showed that job growth was far weaker than initially reported. The BLS payrolls report showed softer-than-expected hiring in July and the steepest two-month downward revisions to jobs growth since 2020, raising concern that the Fed may be "behind the curve." The downward revisions came days after Fed Chair Powell used it as the primary evidence for "solid" labor markets, which justified the FOMC's decision to keep rates in "restrictive" territory.

IGR: Sell This CEF While It Trades At A Premium To NAV
IGR's 14.6% yield is eye-catching, but the fund's long-term total returns have been weak. Despite its global label, IGR still has the majority of its assets located in the United States. The fund has traded up to a premium to NAV recently, which I am not sure is warranted.

IGR: Collecting An Income From Global Real Estate Exposure
IGR offers a high dividend yield of 13.6%, but its NAV has been declining due to poor internal performance and high interest rates. The fund's global exposure and diverse sector focus are attractive, but it should increase its allocation to data center REITs for future growth. IGR's premium valuation and the current high interest rate environment make it a hold, as potential rate cuts in 2025 remain uncertain.

IGR: One Of The Better Income Funds
CBRE Global Real Estate Income Fund (IGR) offers a 13% dividend yield by investing primarily in common equity of publicly traded REITs, with 30% international exposure. IGR's diversified portfolio includes top REITs like Realty Income and American Tower Corp, mitigating risks from economic disruptions and interest rate hikes.

Eleven High-Yield Closed End Funds: Five To Watch And Six To Buy
As a retired income investor, I focus on high-yield CEFs for reliable monthly distributions and potential capital gains from NAV discounts. Five CEFs to avoid currently: GOF, VVR, ARDC, WDI, IGR, due to high relative premiums or unfavorable market conditions. Recommended CEFs to buy/add: AOD, ASGI, JRI, MEGI, OPP, FSCO, offering high yields and potential for capital gains with favorable market conditions.
