The U.S. energy sector has outperformed in 2026, driven primarily by geopolitical-related supply fears, elevated oil prices, and rising demand from the AI infrastructure buildout. While broad energy funds have also surged, investors can potentially enhance exposure by targeting specific segments of the energy market.

There are noteworthy updates coming out of Canada for energy infrastructure investors. Pembina Pipeline Corp (PPL CN) recently reached a positive final investment decision (FID) on its Greenlight Electricity Centre, a C$4.6 billion ($3.2 billion USD) natural gas power plant in Sturgeon County, Alberta.

Income investors looking at the 4.38% on a 10-year Treasury and wishing it were closer to seven have a quiet alternative: midstream energy.

North American energy infrastructure is entering an immense era of expansion, fueled by long-term shifting demand dynamics. This reality is quantified in the INGAA Foundation 2025 Midstream Infrastructure Report.
