The iShares MSCI Indonesia ETF has only gained 2% this year and has grossly underperformed global and EM peers. Indonesian banks, comprising over 40% of EIDO, have faced sluggish loan growth, although stable NIMs in a dovish monetary setting reflect well. Recent government stimulus to the tune of $1B could lift Q4 GDP and 2026 prospects, while further rate cuts are expected from this month through Q1-26.

Indonesian equities appear attractively valued after a decade of underperformance in USD terms. The iShares MSCI Indonesia ETF (EIDO) offers convenient access but is highly concentrated and holds several richly valued or unprofitable names. Top holdings show a mix of strong historical growth and low P/E ratios, but the ETF includes triple-digit P/E and cash-burning companies.

Indonesia's growth surprised to the upside last quarter. Equity markets trade at a substantial discount to Asian emerging markets. Politically based sell-offs may create a solid entry point.

It has been 225 days since President Trump's Inauguration on January 20th, and the S&P 500 entered today up 8% since the last close before the Inauguration. Speaking of the G7, the US has been the worst market among these seven developed nations since Inauguration Day in January. Along with being the second-best performing country ETF since Inauguration Day, Vietnamhas easily been the best performer since April 8th with a gain of 77.5%.

Among APAC equity markets, Australia has a higher beta to oil prices while India, Indonesia and Thailand have lower betas. Domestic political uncertainties have been one main reason for the decoupling trend seen in Indonesia and Thailand.

The U.S. and Indonesia agreed to the framework of a trade agreement, the White House said in a joint statement. Jakarta will drop almost all tariffs on U.S. goods, while imports to the U.S. from Indonesia will be set at 19%, according to the statement.

July 22 (Reuters) - Indonesia will drop tariffs to zero on more than 99% of its trade with the United States and will also eliminate all non-tariff barriers for American goods in a deal that cuts threatened U.S. tariffs on Indonesian products to 19% from an initial 32%, a senior Trump administration official said on Tuesday.
