Disney filed renewal applications for eight of its broadcast station licenses on Thursday after the Federal Communications Commission launched a review years ahead of their scheduled expiration. Disney said it was filing the applications "under protest in response to an unlawful, arbitrary, and unconstitutional order" from the FCC in late April.

The agency's legal battle with Disney's ABC entered a new phase, as the broadcaster complied with a regulatory order to file early license renewals for its eight local TV stations.
