Ameris Bancorp: A Respectful Downgrade After A Great Run
Ameris Bancorp has outperformed the market since my October 2023 "Buy" rating, but shares are now fairly valued after a 77% run-up. Fundamentals remain solid: deposit growth, rising securities, lower debt, and increasing profits, but asset quality and deposit mix raise some concerns. Valuation multiples are above my preferred thresholds, making the stock less attractive despite being cheaper than most peers on a relative basis.
