Invesco is an investment management company that launched the Invesco QQQ exchange-traded fund in 1999, back when it operated as Amvescap. Invesco QQQ tracks the Nasdaq-100 index of companies listed on Nasdaq. Invesco traces its roots to H. Lotery & Co., a UK advisory firm formed in 1935, and in 1978 Charles Brady and eight partners bought the money management arm of Citizens & Southern National Bank, then called INVESCO. It bought PowerShares Capital Management, sponsor of 36 exchange-traded funds, in 2006, and in 2007 it went back to the Invesco name and moved its legal home to Bermuda. Its 2009 purchase of Morgan Stanley's retail unit brought in Van Kampen Investments, and in 2019 it acquired OppenheimerFunds from Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company. It serves retail and institutional investors.
