Commerce Bank Portfolio holdings
Commerce Bank is a Missouri regional bank that traces its roots to 1865, when Francis Reid Long started the Kansas City Savings Association. Dr. William Stone Woods bought it in 1881 and renamed it the National Bank of Commerce, and in 1903 it became Commerce Bank, with William Thornton Kemper Sr. as first president. Over the decades it lent to well-known ventures: Walt Disney borrowed against his life insurance through its trust company in 1954 to help fund his planned theme park, and in 1974 it gave Johnny Morris the credit line to open a second store in what became Bass Pro Shops. Its Commerce Trust division offers financial planning, investment management, trust administration and private banking to high net worth individuals and institutions, while Commerce Family Office advises ultra-high net worth families on day-to-day finances, family governance and passing wealth between generations. In January 2026 Commerce bought FineMark Holdings, parent of FineMark National Bank & Trust, to expand its private banking and wealth management business.
