XMVM: Value-Heavy, Quality-Light Mix Likely To Underperform IVV Into 2027

I maintain the Hold rating on the Invesco S&P MidCap Value with Momentum ETF. I expect XMVM to trail the market that I proxy with IVV into 2027, as quality and growth characteristics of its financials-heavy portfolio leave a lot to be desired. XMVM's weak historical downside capture ratio and deep maximum drawdowns warrant additional caution amid macro pressures.

XMVM: Impressive Value Characteristics But Unappealing Quality And Performance

Invesco S&P MidCap Value with Momentum ETF is a passively managed ETF mixing value and momentum factors in the mid-cap space. Although XMVM has outperformed IJJ and IJH since the strategy change in 2019, it has trailed IVV, delivering a high downside capture ratio and a deep maximum drawdown. XMVM's portfolio is offering an impressive 8.8% adjusted weighted average earnings yield but quite lackluster quality, which adds to risks in the current environment.

Mid-Cap Investing: DON Seems Unattractive, Consider Value With Momentum Through XMVM For Better Returns

Invesco S&P MidCap Value with Momentum ETF (XMVM) is rated Buy with a $75 price target, driven by strong momentum, value, and robust dividend growth. WisdomTree U.S. MidCap Dividend Fund ETF (DON) is rated Hold due to underperformance, slow dividend growth, and a defensive portfolio limiting upside. Mid-cap strategies are poised to benefit from expected 2026 rate cuts and economic expansion, favoring funds with value and momentum exposure.

XMVM: A Mid-Cap Fund With Low Valuation Outperforming The Benchmark

The Invesco S&P MidCap Value with Momentum ETF (XMVM) offers deep value exposure with a momentum overlay, focusing heavily on financial services. XMVM trades at a steep 36.9% P/E discount to the S&P MidCap 400, but is more volatile and concentrated than peers, especially in financials. The fund has outperformed the S&P MidCap 400 over 3- and 5-year periods, but its high volatility and sector concentration limit its risk-adjusted appeal.
