IAU Hedge Fund Activity: Q1 2023 in Review

1,037 of the 6,275 institutional investors tracked by Wall St. Rank reported a position in iShares Gold Trust (IAU) for Q1 2023, worth a combined $15.9B — down 3.2% from $16.5B a quarter earlier.

Buyers outnumbered sellers: 119 funds opened new IAU positions and 70 closed out — a net gain of 49 holders — while 334 added to existing stakes and 363 trimmed.

The largest buyer was Charles Schwab, adding an estimated $136M. The largest seller was Temasek Holdings, exiting entirely with an estimated $251M sold.
