Coal Is Dying? This +9.5% Yielding Energy Play Is Thriving - Alliance Resource Partners
ARLP's coal business continues to remain more resilient than the narrative suggests, with 2026 volumes essentially fully committed and 2027 at 85% committed. Headline pricing is impacted by production/sales mix rather than impairment of the underlying economics. As expected, DCF coverage rebounded sharply to 1.39x in Q2 from 1.00x in Q1, bringing YTD coverage to 1.19x.

Alliance Resource: The Great Coal Yield
Alliance Resource Partners (ARLP) remains a Buy as cost reductions, a robust sales book, and a strengthened royalty segment drive profitability. Q2 saw a double miss on revenue and EPS, but EBITDA margin improvements and the closure of high-cost Mettiki mine enhanced structural profitability. The $206M AllDale Minerals acquisition expands royalty acreage, is accretive to FCF per unit, and diversifies into key basins, notably the Permian.

Alliance Resource Partners: The 9% Yield Does The Heavy Lifting
Alliance Resource Partners is a Buy for its covered 9.3% yield and diversified cash flow from coal and growing oil and gas royalties. ARLP's distributable cash flow coverage rebounded to 1.39x, with leverage remaining conservative even after funding the AllDale royalty acquisition. Operational improvements drove coal costs lower, while the AllDale deal is expected to lift distributable cash flow per unit by 8–9% next year.
