Initially starting as a risk management and fixed-income institutional asset manager, it has grown to manage over $10 trillion in assets through a combination of organic growth and strategic acquisitions, such as its 2009 purchase of Barclays Global Investors. BlackRock is known for its extensive range of investment products, including mutual funds, ETFs (notably under the iShares brand), and alternative investments, serving clients ranging from individuals to governments.
